Know the agency
A crash on a Houston street may be HPD. Unincorporated Harris County may be a Constable or Sheriff file. Freeway incidents can involve DPS. The report number is the key, not a guess about the logo on the car.
Request early
Online portals and records desks have fees and delays. Write the report number on the same note as the claim number.
